‘Dune: Part Two,’ ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ Delayed Amid Strike

The planned November release for Warner Bros. and Legendary’s blockbuster, Dune: Part Two, has been delayed to 2024.

The studio has decided not to release the big-budget film while the Hollywood actors’ strike was in place, according to BBC. With its stars unavailable to promote the film, Warner Bros. has changed its scheduled release date for the Dune sequel from Nov. 15 to March 15, 2024.

The delay also resulted in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire being pushed back to April 12, 2024.

The Writers Guild of America has been on strike, fighting for a better deal in the age of streaming. In July, thousands of Hollywood actors from SAG-AFTRA joined the picket lines supporting the cause. At Oppenheimer’s premiere, the cast walked out in solidarity with the WGA, and since then, appearances and interviews with the press have been sparse with the pause of production.

Lately, Warner Bros.’ superhero movie, Blue Beetle, opened with a humble $25 million at the box office, a number the studio is not looking forward to repeating, particularly with the large-scale investment in Dune.

Warner Bros. has also assessed possible delays for their December releases of The Color Purple and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, according to Variety. But both titles have retained their original dates. Additionally, the fall release schedule for The Equalizer 3, Wonka, and The Marvels is not expected to be impacted.
