Xrick Saenzx On the Making Of “Let Up”

What was the creative process like for this particular single?

The process was extremely easy considering my engineer Joe Chenka cooked up a fire beat. The words essentially came to me with ease because I write almost every day. The hook took me about 15 minutes and the verses took about 30 mins each.

Were there any challenges or breakthrough moments during the songwriting process for "Let Up?”

I wouldn't say there were any challenges. My song “Let Up” was the type of song that I created very easily.

How did you work with the producer or engineers to bring your vision for this single to life?

I told my engineer I needed a fire ass best. Something that I can flow on and nothing too rough. Joe Chenka created the blueprint for the song and I just helped bring it to life with the lyrics, cadence, and hook.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you started in music?

I'm XRick SaenzX, I'm 28 years old, I mess with sports, video games, and making music. I started writing rhymes when I was 13 years old. It wasn't until after I dropped out of college in my junior year due to my psychosis induced by marijuana that I started my music career. God works in mysterious ways. My mom knew a guy who knew Joe Chenka who is my engineer and they connected him with me. He gave me a fair price for beats, mixing and mastering. Now I'm here still working with him.

What are some of the biggest challenges you have faced as a musician, and how did you overcome them?

I've been faced with plenty of challenges. One being is that I thought all my so called friends would support my music when I first came out. I learned the hard way a lot of people aren't as uplifting and rooting for me as I thought. Another challenge is dealing with negative comments. A lot of the times I brush them off, but sometimes when I'm having an off day I would just let loose back at them. I've calmed down now, so I've learned that not everyone will agree with what I say and how I say it. I rarely respond to negativity now. Lastly I thought rap was about talent when it's mostly about image and business. I'm learning the business game now and cultivating a better image for myself.
