Ultan On the Making Of “Wake Up !”
Can you tell us about the inspiration behind "Wake Up !" and the story it tells?
Well, I suppose when you consider how much our modern world relies on a stable or predictable climate for production it's pretty imperative we don’t contribute to disaster and take effective action. It's the pressing issue of our age.
Was there any challenge that you encountered while making the track?
It was one of those songs that just came together very easily. I had the riff and the subject matter and I think I had it all down as a demo in about an hour. Getting into production took a while as my producer is a busy boy but no real hiccups.
What was your favorite moment in making the music video?
The video too was a simple affair. We just made a few takes from various angles and my producer interspersed it with free downloads from the net. On a tight budget with limited time so it’s a case just getting it done. My favourite moment is always the final edition!
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got started in music?
I've always had a creative impulse to write stuff down and I've been fascinated with the craft of songwriting for as long as I can remember. It's just in me. It's never left me. I'm still inspired by great songs. I've only recently gone public though so this is new terrain for me.
Can you walk us through your creative process when writing and composing music?
I seem to just spontaneously come up with a melody in my head or a riff on the guitar. If I think I've got something I will record it on my phone. It might be weeks later before I get a chance to go through the little snippets I've saved and start developing them. I will knead different aspects together then try to find the words. I’ve always enjoyed the process but some material I will never use. It's a great satisfaction when you have a completed piece that you're happy with and willing to let people hear.
