Loudness Wars On the Making Of “Battlefield”

Can you tell us about the inspiration behind "Battlefield" and the story it tells?

My writing mainly focuses on my personal experiences, my feelings about relationships, the perspectives of others, or the challenges that romance poses for both men and women.

The cruelty, agony, and difficulty of love and war are thematically contrasted in the song's lyrics. It highlights the harm that love, particularly when it is lost, shattered, or rejected, can do to one's emotions.

The suffering of a broken heart, the vulnerability of giving all to someone, and the struggle between letting go and holding on are all hopefully depicted in the song. It's about standing in spite of being ripped apart. In spite of the hopelessness, the honesty is strong.

Was there any challenge that you encountered while making the track?

Not much; I finished writing the song and making the music in about 30 minutes. It seemed to happen out of nowhere.

What was your favorite moment in making the music video?

The video was directed by us. We had some trouble getting one another to set the camera and modify camera angles as we took our positions and evaluated how it would look. We had a vision, and we had some rough storyboard-style photos of what we thought might look good and tried to position ourselves in those settings. We had multiple cameras shooting from various angles and hoped it would come together in the edit.

Can you tell us more about you as a band?

We are a band in our 40s. Are we too old? We still love making music.

So a bit about the band:.

Guitars, vocals, and songs were recorded and produced by Jerome, a Sri Lankan-born musician who has lived most of his life in the UK. I've been in a few bands over the years.

On bass, Rich: We met (Jerome) at uni. Rich is a guitarist at heart, has played in many bands, and still plays with a cover band as well on guitar.

On drums, Ian, Rich, and Ian went to school together. Ian has been a drummer all his life and loves to play; he has also been a tour manager for metal bands.

Ian and Rich grew up in Chesham and still live around the area. Jay has been living in West London since his parents moved to the UK in the 1980s.

We meet up once or twice a month to rehearse in Chesham. We have been writing, rehearsing, and recording for two years now. We are still in the process of finishing an album.
