Sean Magwire On the Making Of “Not Ready Yet”
How did you come up with the theme?
This song was born out of a series of conversations I had with the checkout lady at my local grocery store. Over the course of months of interactions, we had several deep conversations regarding life and the current state of the world. I took those conversations and synthesized them into a song.
Was there any challenge that you encountered while making "Not Ready Yet?"
This song was very natural in both the songwriting and recording process. It was one of those songs that took maybe an hour to write. I then worked with my good friend Carter Green in Wellington, Kansas and my insanely talented cousin, Benjamin Cortez, in Phoenix to bring the song to life.
Is there a particular message or theme you hope listeners take away from "Not Ready Yet?"
You are not alone. These past few years have been especially hard on people and to know that we are in this together hopefully helps in some small way. Reach out to the people you love and help those in need.
Do you have any memorable on-stage moments or performances that stand out to you?
I have been blessed to perform at some amazing festivals in the past few years all around the US. The biggest highlights were performing at the Whitefish Songwriter Festival in Montana and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Colorado. To be surrounded by such beauty and incredible music were life-affirming moments for me.
How has your music evolved since you started as a singer-songwriter? What have been some key milestones in your artistic journey?
My songwriting has evolved in so many ways since I began this journey almost 20 years ago. I have experienced so much love, loss, and discovery that my views of the world around me and how I interact with it have evolved. I truly feel like the biggest impact on my songwriting has been my role as a father to Patrick (7) and Cora (5). It is one of the purest joys in life to experience the wonder of the world through their eyes.
