Para Lia On the Making Of “Mind Song”

What was the creative process like for this particular song?

René, the songwriter of the band had one day this melody playing in his head, the hook line of the song. And he started the songwriting, worked out the arrangement and then recorded a demo tape for the band. Finally the band worked out the final version of the song and it was nice – for the single release - to record the single tracks and to work with Lakeside Studio in Berlin, where Dirk Burke did the mixing and mastering of the track.

What impact do you hope "Mind Song" will have on your audience?

We hope that the lyrics give energy and a smile in the face – and the stomping rhythm gets the feet wiping. This exactly is what happens when Para Lia performs the song live.

What was your favorite moment in making the music video?

Getting the idea. During the soundcheck for a gig in December René spotted the sofa elements in the backstage of the Gladhouse – the biggest club in Cottbus, a city south of Berlin. René, who also is the video creator of Para Lia suddenly had the idea to include scenes with band members on the sofa, flying around in a psychedelic sky while the chorus of “Mind Song” is playing. It was a great moment to try this during the process of making the video and to find out – it works!

Can you tell us more about you as a band?

Based in Cottbus near Berlin, Para Lia delivers guitar-driven, melodic indie rock with a good dose of psychedelic and garage rock influence. Originally comprised of René Methner and Cindy Methner, who were raised in the eastern part of a divided Germany, the band’s name Para Lia is Greek for “coast” or “beach”. The project started as a duo in 2018 and grew to a 6 headed band in 2024, now delivering live shows with great musical energy and stunning psychedelic visuals. After releasing the album 'In Clash With The Zeitgeist' in 2023 the band now recorded new songs and “Mind Song” (released 31-01-2025) is the first of a couple of singles, which will see the light of day in 2025.

Where do you find inspiration for your songs or musical ideas?

Sometimes a melody plays inside of the head and says, hey, get me and make a song out of me. And the lyrics? Life has so many shades and some of them come into the mind as a potential verse or chorus of a song.
