Nintenbros On the Making Of ‘Anime, Vol.1 (Lofi & Chill)’
What was the initial spark or idea that led to the creation of 'Anime, Vol.1 (Lofi & Chill)?'
NB: Ghibli movies are such a big part of the anime scene and each one of them is a beautiful master piece. The story, the music, the feels, all intertwined to bring us the joy (and tears) we all know. As anime & game chill cover band, there was no way we could have skipped these songs. They are just too magnificent.
Can you talk about the recording and production process for this album?
We both have specific roles. I'm (Julian) the producer and Joey is the recording artist and sound engineer. Often I start with a basic production, then Joey records different guitar options and I polish and finish the songs off with a few ear candies here and there. Last but not least Joey finalising the music to make it market ready.
Up until this album (including this one), our good friend Louis Münnix mastered all our music, but Joey really loves toi mix and master, so we keep it now in house.
Which piece(s) from 'Anime, Vol.1 (Lofi & Chill)' do you think best represents your artistic vision?
We worked hard on our signature sound and I think with all the anime and game lofi artists out there, you can hear our distinctive vibe. I don't think there is a single piece that represents our artistic vision, especially listening to anime and games is always listening to an entire album as it tells a story. We do have some favourite pieces tho: Joey loved to work on the songs for "Howl's Moving Castle," while my favourite ones were the bits from "Princess Mononoke."
Can you introduce yourself and share a bit about your journey into music production? How did you become a producer?
Joey is a musician since forever and was always playing piano and guitar at home. I have started my music career quite late as an electronic DJ in my twenties. Later I focused as a singer for pop and pop punk music. We both worked in a school together and became friends really quick, while sharing our passion for games and anime. It was just fitting that we started Nintenbros together. Why did we choose chill music above all genres? Because life is extremely hectic for each and every one of us, Joey and me both found a safe place in listening to lofi and we wanted to give this safe haven to the wholesome community of anime lovers and gamers.
Is there a particular direction you'd like to take your production style in the future?
Not really. We just want to make more and more albums as there is so much ground to cover. Our never-ending music album list is probably as big as the backlog of every gamer or anime enthusiast.
Big thank you to Punk Head for having us. It's been a lovely chat.
