Live In Color On the Making Of “Letter To My Future Lover”
What was the creative process like for this particular "Letter To My Future Lover?"
I (Jesper) think the creative process behind the making of “Letter to My Future Lover” is one of the most complex ones we’ve experienced, and maybe that’s why it took us 9 years to finalize. The style of the song actually started out as a very soft, acoustic, slow dancing song and it disappeared from our set lists for a few years until we checked our “archive” and started to elaborate on it in a full band set up during a time where the energic pop/indie/rock sound came pretty natural. After that, it’s been changing bit by bit, from drop to lyrics. The drop started out as choir do-ing but now it’s instrumental and sometimes harmonies have been confused cause all of a sudden I’ve changed the lyrics.
Were there any memorable or standout moments during the recording sessions for "Letter To My Future Lover?"
Yea we remember that taking this into the studio after only playing it live for so many years meant a change for the song in terms of performance, and the recording part made us all very playful. Extra memorable was the recording of backing vocals!
What did you enjoy most about making "Letter To My Future Lover?"
Difficult question… since it’s been around for so many years it’s been lots of memorable moments. But the sort of never-ending-project was something we all enjoyed.
How do you continuously grow and evolve as a band?
We are both a family by blood and without and our connection makes it easy for us to speak difficult truths without worrying about if we’re friends tomorrow. This makes us both strong in ourselves and in the group!
Where do you find inspiration for your songs or musical ideas?
Often stories are based on personal experience. For this particular one it’ was I was living in the US at the time when my cousin’s girlfriend said she had a friend back in Sweden who seemed interested in hanging out when I came back home. I looked her up and got a mutual feeling, but for some reason we never got in contact. She became a distant reality, somewhere in the future. So I started imagining and picturing myself longing and hoping it wouldn’t be too late for us when that future arrived. So I wrote a letter to a (possible) future lover.
