Koala Bar On the Making Of ‘The Antelope’
Can you talk about any specific themes or motifs that run throughout 'The Antelope?'
It’s all inspired by the correlation between being a human being and the nature that surrounds us. We recorded the EP in a studio located next to one of Sweden’s most beautiful national parks. Leon den Engelsen (the producer of the EP) likes to sample sounds from the woods so you could say nature is present in various ways both through lyrics and production.
Can you talk about the recording and production process for this EP?
We had a meeting with Leon and discussed a potential collab, after we did the first song (Lions) as kind of a trial we both felt inspired to proceed with the other songs.
Hanging out eating pasta between takes and talking with Leon’s chickens (they have their own eggs in the garden) made it all a quite delicate ride. We connected not only as musicians but also as friends.
Which song(s) from 'The Antelope' do you think best represents your artistic vision?
As of now and as of ever, we always strive to develop as a band and try not to do music in an ’autopilot-mode’. We love to do what inspires us in the moment and I think you could say that the title track is a good representation because it’s seven minutes long and kind of a middle-finger to the business. If you give it the time deserved, you will get rewarded.
Can you tell us more about you as a band?
We’ve been doing our thing for a decade now and from the beginning it was just two of us (Axel and Jonatan), but a couple of years ago drummer Olof Yassin and bass player Petter Göransson joined us which was a well-needed injection. Private-wise we are four troubled yet very different souls desperately trying to navigate through life with relationships and just the fact being a human.
Where do you find inspiration for your songs or musical ideas?
As mentioned it could be by nature, but as important we look inwards and in our closest sphere to practically just describe and ventilate different events to get a comprehension of life.
