Fluxa On the Making Of “Ecsis (Martti Sewell Remix)”

What was the creative process like for this particular remix single?

Martti Sewell: The first step I take is to listen to the original song and grasp the overall vibe of the track. Then, I focus on the vocal track, identifying intriguing sections around which to build a loop, typically centered on a hook. In this particular song, the standout line was 'Stand by me' in the lyrics. I then construct drum patterns to complement the vocal loop and then develop a bass line to harmonize with it. Next, I segment the vocal track into a sampler, generating diverse variations and melodies. Afterward, I apply effects and structure to the track. My aim was to preserve the original underwater synth patterns while infusing a deeper groove and a more robust 4/4 house feel, but with a vibe twist. The soulful nature of the vocals inspired me to maintain the essence of the original song while providing a fresh perspective.

How did you work with the producer or engineers to bring your vision for this "Ecsis (Martti Sewell Remix)" to life?

Fluxa: Martti contacted me via Instagram after hearing the track on his socials. Initially, I was apprehensive about the idea, fearing he might remix the vocal in a way that didn't resonate with me. However, I was pleasantly surprised upon hearing the first draft; I immediately connected with it and felt that Martti's approach was in alignment with my universe. I sent through a couple of minor edit requests, but to be honest I didn’t have to do much at all. He was all over it.

How do you feel "Ecsis (Martti Sewell Remix)" represents your artistic identity?

I believe Martti successfully captured my artistic identity because, although he initially planned a house remix, he ultimately opted for a slower, more sensual rendition. He delved into the deeper, darker emotions underlying the original song, reflecting the dissatisfaction and frustration I was experiencing with my lover. Listening to his remix evokes those emotions for me anyway, and I wouldn't have released it if it didn't align with my artistic identity.

Can you tell us more about you as an artist?

As an emotional individual, art serves as my outlet for expressing myself. Creating allows me to process my emotions and gain deeper insight into myself. It's a cathartic experience where I transform my experiences into something beautiful, providing a new perspective. I am a curious individual that loves to experiment in the studio. I love playing with new sounds and effects to create ideas that excite me. I never want to be repeating myself. I love to be constantly exploring and hunting down that new vibe that makes my heart race excitedly.

Where do you find inspiration for your songs or musical ideas?

While I draw inspiration from artists I admire, my true muse is my heart, fuelled by the highs and lows of life. Spending time in nature often sparks bursts of inspiration, turning chaotic emotions into poetic beauty. This transformation helps me understand and appreciate my pain, enabling me to let go of negativity and move forward.
