Feature: Youth Killed It Decodes “Up All Night”

Can you tell us about the inspiration behind your track "Up All Night" and the story it tells?

The inspiration for this track came from suffering with anxiety. It stemmed from not accepting that I actually had it, even though I had been told by medical professionals. I just couldn’t wrap my head around it. So this track serves as a reminder to myself that no matter how far I run from it or pretend it doesn’t exist, it will always be there. So the best way to deal with it is to meet it head-on, which is how I deal with it now.

Were there any memorable or standout moments during the recording sessions for this song?

The music for the song changed right up until the final mix. So there are many moments, but on the very last day, while I was mixing the track, I decided to shake it up and added in a new riff to the song. That has now become the hook. It was a super last-minute decision and has totally changed and elevated the song from what it was. It was a roll of the dice moment, and we think it’s paid off!

What impact do you hope "Up All Night" will have on your audience?

I hope it will give people a sense of ownership over any mental health condition they may have and help them realize that being embarrassed or scared of the condition is normal. Only when we realize we have a problem can we then take steps to work on it.

How would you describe your band's overall stage presence and the energy you bring to your live shows?

I would say it’s like watching 8 out of 10 cats with some good old-fashioned rock n roll energy.

Can you share a standout moment from one of your live performances that you'll never forget?

I think, for me, it was selling out The Waterfront in Norwich 6 weeks in advance. The room was electric and everyone that came contributed to such a magical night. The venue played such a huge part in our youth and the nostalgia in the room alone will stay with us forever.
