Feature: Wrash Heed Decodes ‘This is It’

How did you come up with the theme?

The theme for ‘This is it’ came from a very personal place. It represents a moment of realization and clarity for me as an artist. I wanted to create a body of work that encapsulates everything I’ve learned, felt, and experienced in my journey so far. The title itself, ‘This is it,’ is a statement—it's about arriving at a place where I feel confident in who I am and what I want to express musically. The EP is a blend of different sounds and influences that have shaped me over the years, and each track contributes to the overall narrative of finding and embracing my true artistic identity.

How do you feel 'This is It' represents your artistic identity?

‘This is it’ is like a musical autobiography for me. It represents the fusion of my influences, my heritage, and my personal experiences. Each song on the EP showcases a different side of my artistic identity—from the upbeat, dance-ready vibes of "Showcase" to more introspective tracks that explore deeper emotions. I’ve always been inspired by the idea of blending the old with the new, and this EP does exactly that by merging traditional sounds with contemporary production. It’s my way of saying, “This is who I am, and this is the music I was meant to create.”

Can you talk about any standout tracks on the EP and what makes them special to you?

"Showcase" is definitely a standout track for me. It’s a fusion of Afrobeats, dancehall, and Amapiano, and it’s a song that really brings out the energy and vibrancy of the EP. The lyrics are playful yet meaningful, and the rhythm is infectious—it’s impossible not to move when you hear it. Another track that stands out is "Taken or Single," which is more introspective. It dives into the complexities of relationships and self-discovery, which are themes that resonate deeply with me. Both tracks highlight different aspects of my journey, making them special in their own ways.

Can you tell us more about you as an artist?

As an artist, I’m all about blending influences to create something new and authentic. Growing up in Lagos, I was exposed to a rich tapestry of sounds—from traditional Nigerian music to global genres like R&B and dancehall. My music is a reflection of this diverse upbringing. I’m constantly experimenting with different styles and sounds to create music that feels both fresh and familiar. At the core, my goal is to make music that connects with people on a deeper level, whether it’s through a catchy hook, a powerful lyric, or a rhythm that just makes you want to dance.

Are there any specific themes or messages that you aim to convey through your music?

Absolutely. One of the main themes in my music is self-expression and the importance of staying true to yourself. I want my listeners to feel empowered to embrace who they are, just as I’ve done through my music. There’s also a strong element of cultural pride—I’m proud of my Nigerian roots, and I aim to showcase that in every song. Whether it’s through the use of indigenous sounds or lyrics that touch on universal experiences, my music is a celebration of where I come from and who I’ve become. Ultimately, I want my music to inspire others to find their own voice and to live authentically.
