Feature: Tende Kasha Decodes “Mr Liar”
What was the creative process like for this particular song?
I wanted to write something romantic but somewhat funny. So I came up with this scenario.
I believe that long lasting romantic relationships, can only last if there is trust. I drew examples of relationships fuelled with mistrust and lies from personal experience and borrowed some examples of relationship issues faced by my friends as well as total strangers I met in the past to write the lyrics for this song.
Were there any challenges or breakthrough moments during the songwriting process for "Mr Liar?"
During the time I recorded "Mr Liar" I was going through some challenges. It was 2020 and I had to close down my business, which brought a lot of stress and uncertainty. At the time I was struggling with vocal cord spasms. This is a very annoying condition that makes it very hard to sing and breathe. I have been battling this condition for more than two decades and only now I feel almost 90 percent better. It took a lot of vocal work and training but despite all the challenges and setbacks I was able to record with a good tone of voice.
What do you like the best about "Mr Liar?"
I like the combination of the groove of the tune and the almost comic lyrics. I also like the positive energy that carries and the fact that is a quite catchy tune.
How has your music evolved since you started as a singer-songwriter? What have been some key milestones in your artistic journey?
It has been a long journey and surely there have been many ups and downs and in my opinion that makes it more interesting. I am always trying to better myself so that I can continue to create tunes with appeal to my fans. The milestone in my artist journey was to receive the "2021 Rising Star Award" from The Akademia Music Awards for my song " Shinning Star". It feels good to be recognized for what we do.
My debut album ‘INNER TUNE’ was released in 2017 and before I released my single “Shinning Star” in 2021, I released another single titled '“Peace n Love", in 2020.
Are there any upcoming projects or releases that you're particularly excited about?
Yes, I have been working on my new EP "Unite Stand Right" since 2020 and we are in the middle of re-recording 4 tracks. This EP is packed with lots of good vibes and a diversity of sounds that I am looking forward to introducing to my audience. The release date is not fixed yet but it will be around the end of April or early March 2024.
