Feature: Mick Blankenship Decodes “In The Music”
What was the creative process like for this particular single?
It was something I had wanted to do for a long time. I wanted to mash Swing with Hard Rock. It was derived from Van Halen roots and inspired by the song “Way cool Jr” by Ratt. I wanted a modern Hard Rock song that provokes positivity.
Were there any memorable or standout moments during the recording sessions for "In the music?"
The whole session was a blast! From beginning to end. It felt very natural for me to write because I have wanted to do it so long. The lyrics practically wrote themselves.
What impact do you hope "In the music" will have on your audience?
My hope is unity. With so much negativity and division these days, I really hope it can bring more people together. If even only a small margin. Music heals!
Can you share an instance where you felt a strong connection with the crowd during a show?
The most powerful connection I have is when I see the front row singing my lyrics. Any time I get to be a part of that is a gift that I will always cherish! It’s very special to me.
Are there any upcoming projects or releases that you're particularly excited about?
Yes, I am looking forward to releasing an acoustic album soon. Something raw and intimate. I have always wanted to do that. I am also looking forward to touring with Theory of a Deadman in February. It is a life changing opportunity for me, and a chance to connect with new fans!
