Feature: Michael Meaney Decodes “Supersonic”

Is there a person/event that stimulated the creation of "Supersonic?"

For sure. This song is about a relationship I had with a girl who was living very fast-paced. She’s in the music scene and I quickly realized liked “I cannot keep up with this girl”. The money, the cars the people, it was kind of too much for me.

Was there any challenges that you encountered while making "Supersonic?"

There are always challenges for me when making a song. I think with “Supersonic” it was hard to nail the timing on the first verse. Joe (my mentor, best friend and bassist in INK) had to tap my leg to the tempo to stay on it 🤣.

Were there any memorable or standout moments during the recording sessions for this single?

Well. Actually ya! We were trying to come up with a hook that repeats a lot, something different than I’m used to doing in my songs. After trying to wrap the idea up to relate it to, fast-paced and somewhere in the realm of outer space, and a few blunts in, one of us just shouted “SUPERSONIC”! We knew what we wanted for the hook from that point on.

Also, Anytime I do a session with Joe, we have a great time. It’s always memorable because I absorb so much talent and inspiration.

Can you share a bit about your musical background and the journey that led you to where you are today?

I started writing music in 2018. I had no idea what I was doing. I’ve come a long way even though I still don’t know what I’m doing half the time! Through writing, I met some amazing people who really supported my Journey. I’m currently a stage actor for Ice Nine Kills, which is wild to say. But I use that to get an audience to listen to me and my music. I’ve built relationships with artists I’ve worked with on and off the stage, which has led to me diving deeper into making my own music. Working so closely with my best friends like Joe, Donovan (Hail The Sun) and Franco (Flat Out) has given me the ability to continue growing as an artist and learning as much as I can to inspire others.

I want to take these songs and get them to the people who need to hear the stories. I want to have those songs someone wants to hear when their down and out, something to turn that feeling into motivation.

How do you approach collaborations with other musicians or artists?

Honestly, I’m always collaborating, it’s second nature at this point. I just try to really feel out how the artist I’m working with is getting into the song. I love to ask questions. What made you think of that? What if we did it like this? How are you this good?!

I think collaboration is necessary at least for me. It gives insight to other creative minds and opens up mine. It’s always inspiring for me.
