Feature: Harry Kappen Decodes “Cool down”

What was the initial spark or idea that led to the creation of "Cool down?"

Harry: After the previous single “One life,” which was a ballad, I wanted to make a more uptempo song with lots of guitars, a combination of electric and acoustic with an original chord progression. As always, I make the music first. The tempo, the hustle and the atmosphere of the song forced me to talk about everyday hurried life. And that we live in an overheated world. Hence my desire to cool down and reflect on what is really important in my life and my loved ones.

How do you feel "Cool down" represents your artistic identity?

I have a background with many rock bands from the Netherlands. So this song fits into that history.

But I like many styles from rock to pop, from balad to classical. My albums always have an eclectic atmosphere. This also applies to my new album 'Time will tell,' of which “Cool down” is now the single.

What was your favorite moment in making the music video?

The video is mainly intended as a lyrics video. So I did some tinkering with free images that I could find on the internet. It turned out nice and I'm glad I found images that support the text.

What has been the most memorable experience or achievement in your music career so far?

The last 2 years have been hectic; After joining the American management MTSmanagement group, my career is on the rise. This year I have been nominated for multiple awards for the first time in my life. In addition to the ISSA Awards and the International Red Carpet Award, I have been nominated for the Josie Awards in Nashville, Tennessee; an incredible honor for me. I was never one to care about music awards, but I find that it is a huge incentive for me to continue writing and recording. The next album is already in the works.

Can you share a memorable experience working with other musicians to realize your musical vision?

What I am working on now are all solo projects, but I would never have been able to make them if I had not first gained a lot of experience in bands and as a producer for other bands, and writing music for others, including Dutch television.

Very important was the collaboration with 2 friends, Koop and Jeroen, with whom I spent countless hours in rehearsal rooms and studios. And not to forget making an album with my sister Hanneke, called ‘Kapsonic’. A wonderful album with only hits (in our humble opinion :))
