Feature: DIRTY SLIPPERS Decodes “Where did the summer go?”
What was the creative process like for this particular song?
The new song was originally written in Hungarian and deals with a terrible breakup. So that's why it starts with a really hard punk bass guitar theme. Then, when we selected the songs for the first album in English language, Bebi Ferenczi, our drummer, indicated that she felt so much potential in this song that we should do it in English as well. So we re-arranged it and re-recorded it at Abbey Road Studios, which is exactly how we wanted it to be. Our producer, George Shilling put in these cool analog synths and that opened up the whole song. I'm happy because there's been a lot of radio feedback and they really like it, as do the audience.
How did you work with the producer or engineers to bring your vision for "Where did the summer go?" to life?
The work was like a dream, because we did the recording in the most wonderful studio in the world, Abbey Road. Our producer George Shilling has been with us since 2009, so from the first minute he knew what to add to this song to get what we wanted. His assistant was sound engineer Neil Dawes, who previously worked on Ed Sheeran's records, so the team was excellent. And the fact that we can talk to stars and professionals like Giles Martin or Bernard Butler during the work processes is quite incredible. A maximally inspiring environment, only the best can be created between the legendary walls.
What was your favorite moment in making the music video?
That was so funny, when the guys sat on top of the back seat in a cabrio car, while we raced up and down in the suburbs of Budapest. It was funny in the 40-degree heat to see the others balancing in the back in jackets and coats. Originally, the party scene would not have included a baby, but the director couple's child was so cute!. So we added him to the scenes :)
What do you enjoy most about performing live and connecting with your audience?
I really enjoy all of the gigs. I think it's the most amazing feeling in the world to see people smiling at the concert and singing the songs. There are terrible things going on in the world right now and I want our music to be a refuge for our fans. That is why we always stay to talk with them for 1-2 hours after the concerts. We chat with them every day in our Fan club and in a Messenger chat site. I like that we form a community and look out for each other.
Are there any upcoming projects or releases that you're particularly excited about?
We are super excited as our 10-track new album, which was recorded at Abbey Road is scheduled to be released in early 2025. This will be preceded by our first UK tour starting in London on November 28th at The Dublin Castle, followed by Whitchurch, The Percy's Bar on the 29th, Stockton on Tees, NE Volume on the 30th and Newcastle, Little Buildings on the 1st of December. Both were huge childhood dreams. We look forward to seeing you at the concerts and thank you for sharing the clip and writing a comment on Youtube.
