Feature: Bae Baracus Decodes ‘Escape to Freedom’

How did you come up with the theme?

Bae Baracus always takes inspiration from current crises, and this EP was inspired by our unwillingness to ignore assault on democracy and human rights closer to home than we're used to.

Was there any challenge that you encountered while making 'Escape to Freedom?'

It always goes smoothly with Bae! When we get together in the studio, we work fast and furiously. “Brink of Volition” and “Wwise Words” were both 'on the fly' tracks that we wrote and recorded in an hour each. We've released a ton of music over the last 4 years, and we've always taken this approach. We don't obsess over details, we just roll with wherever a mood or sound seems to take us in the moment.

Which song(s) do you like the best and why?

It's hard to pick a favourite. As Dolly De Guerre, our lead vocalist says "I love all my children equally!"

Can you tell us more about you as a band?

We're an electropunk trio from the West Coast. Primarily a studio project, we have played a couple of live shows locally. We work very spontaneously and quickly produce a lot of material. Dolly = lyrics and vocals, Lin = keys and producer, Clef = multiinstrumentalist, vocals, lyrics. Our favourite colour is orange.

Are there any specific themes or messages that you aim to convey through your music?

Our vexation with oppression and repression, corporate greed and social regression fuels everything we do.
