Crashing Castles Releases “Fireflies”

Is there a particular ethos behind the single/EP/album or any particular music styles or events that inspired it?

The track is heavily inspired by Donkey Kong Country soundtrack and generally old video game soundtracks. Especially the song "Stickerbrush Symphony" in DKC was a major inspiration.

Can you briefly describe what the song is about?

The track is about the finiteness of life and remembrance of your loved ones and lost bonds that have shaped you into who you are today. It has a very nostalgic feel to it.

Where was the single/EP/album recorded and who was involved in its production?

Fireflies was recorded & produced remotely by each member. Jesse wrote the song & initial lyrics, Aavee completed the lyrics and produced the vocals, and lastly Kalle produced and finished the rest of the track.

How and where did you get together?

In summer 2022, Jesse sent Aavee an old metal demo, which was then rearranged into a drum'n'bass-oriented track. This was when Crashing Castles was born. In the end of the same year, Kalle joined as an additional producer. Everyone has known each other since elementary school.

Have you played any notable gigs, festivals or other events? Likewise radio or TV appearances?

Our debut single "The Circle" was put into Yle X3M's Superrotation (Yle is the national radio of Finland) for a week after the host discovered the song in Spotify's New Music Friday Suomi -playlist. No gigs have been played yet as the project is fairly new.
