Filip Dahl “Walking Towards Eternity”

In the nocturnal track “Walking Towards Eternity,” Filip Dahl tells the most moving tale with his electric guitar. In a husky, slightly frizzy tone, the track is driven by emotions and the realm of story itself. The music notes have become less about the pitch than a thread of narrative that draws listener further into an emotive, immersive experience.

“Walking Towards Eternity” is one of the collection of songs from Storyteller. With the instrument being the storyteller, it sings from the heart of Dahl with such urgency and transparency. The soaring high notes carry so much tension. Hearing it as it climbs up to the climax is the most wrenching you’d experience compare to most songs with vocals.

As the track dives further in, the influences of which Filip Dahl is familiar with becomes the live-in ghosts in this tune. Prog rock, the 80s’ and blues cast its shadow and become an impression in the track. It seems to add another dimension to the storytelling, taking listeners down a nostalgic memory lane where the different shapes of mood, even the ones forgotten in the corners are being remembered once again.

Cinematic, epic yet intimate. The guitar tone doesn’t change in the track, but Dahl’s playing is able to capture the subtle nuance that a single timbre holds. Like array of colors within one color, the track evokes a vibrant mix of micro sonic palette that you have to savor. After the bridge, “Walking Towards Eternity” takes off during the second half where the strings and electronic pads lift up the ground and push the guitar even higher, heading towards the moon. In its elevating catharsis and epicness, it’s also incredibly sensitive. The feelings are becoming more palpable towards the end.
