How Did Professor X Get His Body Back After X-Men: The Last Stand
X-Men: The Last Stand marks the ending of the original X-Men trilogy. Jean Grey becomes the Dark Phoenix and loses control of her powers and emotions. Believe that Charles Xavier only wanted to control her, the Dark Phoenix kills him out of anger. In the post-credits scene, viewers learn that Professor X isn’t actually dead, and he has managed to transfer his consciousness into Moira MacTaggert’s patient.
However, the next time Patrick Stewart’s Professor X returns in Days of Future Past, he seems to be back in his old body. With a massive cast and a tight runtime, the film never explained how he got his body back.
One detail from the source material, on the other hand, might shine some light on this mystery. In Chris Claremont and Paul Smith’s The Uncanny X-Men #167, Xavier’s body was destroyed by a Brood Queen, who hatched inside of it. Xavier then transferred his consciousness to a clone body, which also gave him functional legs. In Charles Soule and Michael De Mundon’s Astonishing X-Men #6, Xavier also returned to life in another mutant’s body. It seems clear that as long as his consciousness is saved, with advanced technology, Xavier would be able to return to a clone body if he chooses to be. The questions is:
Does Cloning Exist in X-Men Universe?
In Logan, the technology of human cloning does exist. X-23 and X-24 are improved and clone versions of Wolverine, though the villainous Alkali-Transigen wouldn’t be the one Xavier and MacTaggart work with. The fact that this technology exists in the universe means the possibility that the later Professor X could be using his clone body. On the other hand, why he chooses not to have functional legs would be the new question. Perhaps, just like history would always repeat itself, Jean Grey becomes the Dark Phoenix, Professor X loses his legs and finds his way back stronger, it’s part of their journey…
