Deadpool 3 Production Comes to a Halt Due to Writer’s Strike

Deadpool 3’s production has come to a halt due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike, making the Shawn Levy sequel one of the first major productions to be impacted by the writer’s strike.

The news came out only days after the studio revealed a set photo with the new suit designs of Ryan Renolds’ Wade and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. Although the exact plots are under tight wraps, Jennifer Garner from the 2003 Daredevil film adaption will also reprise her role as Elektra in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Writer’s Guild of America approved a strike order in May, demanding fair wages and improved working conditions for its members in the rise of Artificial Intelligence and streaming platforms. Since the strike, members stopped working across productions from over the industry. Television programs like NBC’s Saturday Night Light and talk shows were the first to be impacted.

Deadpool 3 started filming in May and has managed to keep filming for weeks following the strike. However, it seems that the film is not spared from the impact. Whether the film will arrive in theaters on its projected release date of May 3, 2024, will likely depend on when the strike will be resolved.

The SAG-AFTRA union represents around 160,000 performers working in various aspects of production. Its members include actors, announcers, hosts, DJs, stunt performers, and broadcast journalists.
