Olivia Rodrigo Ignores All Warning Signs in “bad idea right?” Music Video

“I had such a fun time making this song with @dan_nigro in NYC last year,” Olivia Rodrigo wrote on social media. “We wrote the chorus as a joke but we loved it so much we made it into a full-fledged song lol!”

“We were throwing the weirdest things at the wall – in one of the choruses there’s a part that sounds like an instrument in the background, but it’s me gradually screaming louder and louder,” Olivia Rodrigo shared in an email to fans.

With a ringing, glitchy swell, and messed-up heavy guitars, “bad idea right?” shows another side of Guts that’s more playful and rebellious. Right from the top, the latest single enters an entirely different dimension from “Vampire,” though both songs are pretty wild compared to the singer-songwriter’s debut album Sour.

Rodrigo revealed that she had the idea for Guts before Sour. “I had it in my head. I’m like, ‘Four letters, all caps, just like ‘Sour’,” she recalled. “I love it. I just think it’s an interesting word.”

“People use it in so many interesting contexts like spill your guts. Hate your guts… I think is a really interesting term. [It] means bravery, but it also means intuition, like listen to your gut. I just think it’s all of these things that coincidentally were things that I’ve really been thinking about in this chapter.”
