Mortal Prophets On the Making Of ‘THE TWANG GANG [Live in Berlin]’

Can you share any interesting or unique musical elements or production techniques used in 'THE TWANG GANG [Live in Berlin]?'

This was the first album that I’ve produced solo, so I’m proud of that.

What did you enjoy most about making 'THE TWANG GANG [Live in Berlin]?'

It was a fun album to make, and it came together quickly, over a period of a month last summer (2022), it came unexpectedly, as I wasn’t planning on making what I think of as a cinematic “psychotronic” ambient cowboy soundtrack. But that’s what is. It just happened.

Which single do you like the best and why?

I don’t have one favorite, I enjoy “The Twang Gang [Live in Berlin,” “Ride Em High,” and “Dog Face Joe,” the most. The entire album is very cheeky, yet these three songs bring a smile to my face.

Do you have any specific techniques or methods for experimenting with sound or visuals?

Don’t get hung up on genres, let the music flow. Work quickly, if you get stuck, start another song. Don’t worry about all the music making sense, it will all form a coherent whole in the future, with some distance and time you will be able to arrange the music into various buckets and thus create an EP or an album. If I can’t form the outline of a song in an hour, I save it and come back to it later. You can’t force inspiration; it must come to you. The muses have their own reasons, and they are fickle sometimes.

What has been the most memorable experience or achievement in your music career so far?

Simply being able to make music, as I just started in 2021, life takes some unexpected twists. It was something that I always wanted to do, in the back of my mind, and now it’s really happening. I’ve had an amazing education in a very brief period. I feel very fortunate. Back to work!
