Cam Cole On the Making Of ‘Unleash’

How does 'Unleash' reflect your musical journey and growth as an artist?

Hey there, well Unleash is my 3rd album now but it is the one where I was finally able to add these intricate beats I had in my head for years and make them happen on a foot drum in my limited setup. My goal was always to sound like a full tight band but all played by one guy and I feel with this one I finally achieved that.

What has been one of your favorite memories along the path to making 'Unleash?'

Well, I'm a big Black Sabbath fan and this one was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales, in the very room Black Sabbath wrote Paranoid in. So to be able to play my songs and record them in that room was pretty mindblowing.

Could you discuss the lyrical themes or messages conveyed in 'Unleash?'

There are quite a few different ones on there but I guess they all somewhat deal with becoming the unique person you are truly meant to be without making any excuses. Choosing happiness, and peace within ourselves.

Where do you find inspiration for your songs or musical ideas?

In the riffs first and foremost. I love just getting stoned, sitting back in my Van, and playing my guitars. It's like fishing I just sit there, observe what comes out of the speakers, and every now and then a riff comes out that inspires me and it goes from there.

What's your favorite part about performing live? How do you connect with your audience during a performance?

At the end of my shows, I truly do feel totally present and in the moment, and I love that music is a journey to get there. My favorite thing is reaching that presence and taking the audience there with me. A couple of times folks told me after the show my songs made them forget about all the shit in their lives for two hours, thats really what it is all about at the end of the day.
