And The Broken On the Making Of “Puttin' Out Fires (HURT)”

What was the creative process like for this particular "Puttin' Out Fires (HURT)?"

Well, this song doesn’t sound at all as I imagined it when I presented it to the band. The song took many shapes and the chorus changed quite a lot in the process. But one thing is for sure, it doesn’t sound like ”Drugs Don’t Work” like I thought it would.

What has been one of your most favorite memories along the path to making this track?

It’s definitely the recording of the ”guitar-solo” after the first chorus. Johan really didn’t know what to play. He did two takes and I think we used the first one. I laughed out loud when one curator gave us the feedback: ”…we're also personally not too fond of long guitar solo parts and are rather looking for more unique sounds…”.

Are there any future plans or projects related to "Puttin' Out Fires (HURT)" that you're excited about?

We’re just excited about how it has been received. We have a couple of gigs coming up and that’s when you get the best feedback.

How do you continuously grow and evolve as a band?

We rehearse regularly. It might sound boring, but to evolve you need to be structured. The thing stopping the creation of new songs is gigs. But gigs are the reason why we do this so it’s worth it. But now we have promised ourselves that this autumn is dedicated to writing and recording new songs.

Who are some of your biggest musical influences, and how have they impacted your own sound?

It depends on who you ask in the band. Måns likes the Who and jazz, Linus mostly listens to Lo-Fi, Johan is a huge Springsteen-fan, and Conny likes The National and such. I’m a huge fan of Britpop and Swedish indie. Somewhere in the middle we can connect and create something new. Hopefully, something appealing to someone.
