CeCe “Problems”
Fierce and melancholy, “Problems” is a song written for all the people out there who have been brutally betrayed. Bloody against black, fire against angst comes together in flames, ready to take the whole world. That’s the kind of energy you get from “Problems,” but moreover, it tells you that even though the hurt is deep, you’re never alone. CeCe creates a safe space in her music for all the listeners, where they are allowed to feel pity and anger without being judged. Inspired by her friend’s experience of betrayal, the artist dedicated the song for them.
With cathartic moments that rise up above all, chanting and singing in unison, CeCe has taken her listeners through an emotional journey of healing and empowerment. Bathed in natural melancholia, her moody vocal is so easy to fall in love with. It’s naked with all the vulnerability and emotions out in the open, not shying away from expressing them. “Problems” is the best release from the artist yet. In this song, CeCe’s unique aesthetic and contrasting charisma shine so fiercely. She’s unstoppable and compassionate, courage and daring.
CeCe revealed to us that she has many songs coming in the near future. She’s currently working on her debut album.
Punk Head: I love your aesthetic and moody vocals in ‘Problems.’ I read that you wrote the song for your friend who has been betrayed. Can you talk about music as an artistic form and what motivates you as an artist?
CeCe: I think music has the capability to both draw someone into the present moment as well as take them on a journey. A song can instantly transport someone back in time to a pivotal moment that lives vividly in their memory, it relieves anxiety, provides catharsis from trauma, and really unites people at a core level. Thats what motivates me as an artist- being a catalyst to provide those things for anyone who will listen.
PH: Can you tell us a little about your upcoming album?
CeCe: We are still exploring what the album experience is going to be as a whole but I think we are really narrowing in on the over arcing theme of the album and where it will live sonically. I’m really excited to share the music, my favorite records aren’t even out yet!
PH: Who are your biggest influences?
CeCe: My biggest influences have never really been assigned to a particular artist. I am much more drawn to individual songs as opposed to falling in love with an artist and then just inherently loving any work that they put out. I grew up pretty sheltered, so when I was little, we didn't have cable to watch MTV or anything like that. So I listened to my dad’s record player in our basement. He had vinyls from Michael Jackson, Meatloaf, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, even Homer and Jethro (I remember me and my brothers thinking their music was so funny). So I naturally developed very eclectic taste in music and I think thats pretty obvious in my own work. I make music that I would want to listen to.
PH: What has been one of the most significant moments of your music journey so far?
CeCe: I think that moving out to LA was probably one of the most significant choices of my life, not just my music journey. But I dedicated my life to music and art a long time ago, so the two go hand in hand. This city has challenged me in ways I wasn't sure I could handle. But those challenges have molded me into the artist I am, as well as the friends and collaborators that are family to me. I’m excited to see what we do next.
PH: What is the one thing that you’d like your fans to know about you?
CeCe: One thing I want anyone who is following me and my career to know is that I will continue to take chances, bring my absolute best creativity, and continue to put out the best music I possibly can. I will continue to show up as my most authentic self, whatever that evolves into, and encourage others to do the same.
