zohd On the Making Of ‘A Western’

How did everything come together?

I worked on the beats myself over the last year playing with drum patterns, instruments, synths, etc. until I felt something right- while I was also working to re-mix and master my older music because I felt it wasn't up to par with professional music. I then went to recording and worked super hard to get full concepts outlined and iterated and erased writing I felt like wasn't strong enough.

Can you talk about any standout tracks on 'A Western' and what makes them special to you?

Standout tracks for me personally are "ok yea" due to its fun and laid back simple style while also having a clean sound and maintaining danceability with such little sounds being a part of it. I also think "hey" and "even" are 2 other standout tracking featuring different vibes.

What was your favorite moment in making the music video?

My favorite moment in making the music videos was watching the footage back and being helping to edit the footage as I slowly got to see a creative vision being actualized and executed on. It was cool to see and be a part of visuals for music for the first time.

Can you share a bit about your musical background and the journey that led you to where you are today?

When I was younger in the shower one time I heard music while nothing was playing kind of in the background- I ended up stopping the shower and checked to see if anything was playing, but there wasn't anything. I actually chalked this up to nothing and never thought about it until recently, but over the last 3 years I begun noticing I had melodies in my head whenever I heard beats or other peoples music but it was sometimes hard to really decipher what was in there, I realized this was probably a skill I had to work on and began producing and really focusing on feeling myself out and experimenting until I spat out what was in my head.

Looking ahead, what are your long-term goals and aspirations as a musician?

My long term goals are to be able to sustain myself through this craft and the other lanes it brings with it, while having fun and staying focused. I would like to continually improve my musical skills and keep growing emotionally.
