Tritonic On the Making Of “Demiurge”
What was the creative process like for this particular song?
The inciting incident was when I made my first fretless guitar. Through the creation of the fretless guitar, it freed my songwriting from the usual metal fetishisation of precision and led to a sloppier improvisational style. The original demo was ten minutes of free improvisation that was eventually whittled down into a whole song.
What impact do you hope "Demiurge" will have on your audience?
That they too will hope to 'Bend the Arc' or at least be willing to find out what that means. True knowledge can only come at your own expense.
What was your favorite moment in making the music video?
My Girlfriend telling me not to put so much gold paint in my eyes and refusing to let me put it in the rest of the band’s eyes. Also, the running joke is that in each video we make, I normally make Jonathan take his top off and get in the bath. This video is no different.
Can you tell us more about you as a band?
Tritonic is a semi-functional gathering of friends run like a dictatorship, who, when inspired, gather together to make loud uncompromising music that only they could make.
Where do you find inspiration for your songs or musical ideas?
Tritonic has always been omnivorous and we have always listened to genres outside the one you are making. Our naïveté around the genres of music we are making may be our greatest strength, as it frees us to bend the genre to whatever will we so wish. I have always been inspired by bands that are uncompromising with singular artistic visions, where all decisions come from a central thesis. Bands like These New Puritans, Talk Talk or Liturgy are perhaps our biggest inspiration, but then we probably end up sounding like an intentionally less well produced Limp Bizkit.
