The Winter Sounds On the Making of ‘Europa’

What was the initial spark or idea that led to the creation of 'Europa?'

'Europa' is 5 songs which were removed from an upcoming album called 'Jupiter' ... so like the moon, it orbits the full-length. The main idea for the EP and the eventual LP which will follow it, is an insistance on a more solarpunk future.

How did you work with the producer or engineers to bring your vision for 'Europa' to life?

I've worked with Derek Garten on several projects now. He is a friend and is capable of doing anything musically that we are looking for. Not only do the songs sound great, but there's a lot of experimentation in the overall sound design. The songs will 'dream' or 'go under water' and he can make the sound design follow the lyrical themes in interesting ways :)

Which song(s) from the EP do you think best represents your artistic vision?

I think the opening track is the most definitive for me. I like the confines of pop music. I also like breaking the rules within the genre. And I really like communicating complex emotions through simple lyrics and interesting melodies. I hope it comes across well, but that is my goal.

What do you enjoy most about performing live and connecting with your audience?

Performing live is the best. I don't do it enough. But being with people and sharing an evening, feeling and responding to the energy, and presenting new ideas or old ideas in different ways is a great feeling.

How do you stay inspired and motivated to continue pushing boundaries in your art?

I am just 100% committed to this. I love every aspect of it. I've never been short on inspiration or motivation ... and there's so much great art and music and film and everything to keep me inspired for lifetimes. I also want to really create something new, musically. I think it is really important to me, so pushing boundaries is something I work towards and think about a lot, in terms of music.
