The Sleepy Haunts On the Making Of ‘bloom, vol. 1’

What was the creative process like for this particular 'bloom, vol. 1?'

’bloom, vol 1’ was written entirely at home and then recorded at a small studio in Portland, OR. Mixing and mastering were split between Agyei Marshall and Beach Bunny's Aaron Cada. ‘bloom, vol 1’ was really a collection of my experiences during my first years of college, and I'm hoping the full album ‘bloom’ can finish off that undergraduate story.

What did you enjoy most about making 'bloom, vol. 1?'

I loved having new musical influences that showed up in my writing. As I was writing ‘bloom, vol. 1’ there was Olivia Rodrigo's debut album and Chloe Moriondo. Their songs helped me figure out my own story to tell.

What is your personal favorite song from 'bloom, vol. 1' and why?

My personal favorite song is "why do I feel this way?" I wrote it about jealousy I'd feel in the music industry as I watched my peers succeed. It's also about how I tried to remedy those feelings. I was inspired by Mega Mango when writing it, and the words flowed out of me like nothing before.

What do you believe sets your live performances apart from other bands?

According to our listeners at live shows, a certain magic exists in our performances. It sounds different from our recordings and creates a certain collective effervescence that makes our music an experience rather than just an event you go to after a long day at work.

What inspired you to pursue a career in music?

I have always loved to sing, but I didn't start becoming a songwriter until freshman year of high school. My first song was about the show Twin Peaks, and my parents were shocked to find out it was actually kind of decent. I joined School of Rock afterwards, and learning to play in a band with other kids while discovering how to write my own music really inspired me to pursue it fulltime.
