The Gilhoolys On the Making Of “The Passing Of Time”
What was the initial spark or idea that led to the creation of "The Passing Of Time?"
The initial idea was to create a song which inspired people to be brave and use and chase any talent or passion they gave and not be overpowered or controlled.
Were there any challenges or breakthrough moments during the songwriting process for this song?
Break through moments were looking at people I knew and how easily they gave up on things and the loss of motivation etc.
How did you work with the producer or engineers to bring your vision for "The Passing Of Time" to life?
I worked closely with Andy Anderson ( Main St Records producer) to encapsulate the musical mood, movement and tempo to move the song musically to suit the content and feel that the lyrics created. Using mainly guitar sounds in various guises and emulating the wording in a kind of musical story.
Can you tell us more about you as a band?
I am a sole singer-songwriter / composer and I collaborate with various musicians when producing songs and of course performing live. The original band has all taken up other opportunities both musically and in general and I have committed to producing our 4th album as The Gilhoolys. It also brings fresh ideas and inspiration. We have been making music as the Gilhoolys since the 1990s and have a solid reputation as a good live act and for producing good indie type music over the course of these albums which has also spawned 2 no 1 singles in the Indie Charts.
As long as the ideas and inspiration keep coming at a high level, we will keep producing music for the fan base.
Are there any specific themes or messages that you aim to convey through your music?
I think our music tends to be based around real life, struggles, inspirational messages, and would like to think there are clear indicators that the music and lyrics bring hope and use modern-day rhetoric to communicate the need to be all you can be and not to be controlled and suppressed by the narcicism and content peddled by media we have enforced on us. It's vitally important we maintain humanity and moral virtues and never sell out or drown in apathy.
