Tally Spear On the Making Of “Imposter”

How does this single "Imposter" reflect your musical journey and growth as an artist?

A. Imposter is about being myself, really letting go of the fear of judgement or 'trying' to sound like anything in particular, just really embracing who I am and the reasons I like to share music in the first place; honesty, expression and and converting insecurities into energy.

Could you discuss the lyrical themes or messages conveyed in this "Imposter?"

I like to use my songs as diary entries, all with different angles and themes, this one being 'imposter syndrome - it's really be expressing how I've struggled with feeling like the odd one out in some way, an 'outsider' and an 'intruder.' I talk about how life seems to go by so quickly and I often feel like I'm standing still due to my own constraints I place on myself. It's light though - I'm obsessed with turning my own insecurities into things that can help me and feel light, a new song, a poem I can share, a video someone can watch...

Can you talk about the recording and production process for this single?

We pretty much recorded it in a day, at Jon (Cass) my producer's home studio. I had the verse already written and then I brought it to Jon and we started recording it in, and as we did, the chorus just came to me there and it fit in really well. It came together quite quickly and easily. Jon really sees my visions for songs and we work so well together - a rare and precious thing!

What do you enjoy most about performing live and connecting with your audience?

It's what its all about really. Being there with a listener and connecting with them through a song, feeling them engage with it live in the room with you. Having an opportunity to pour out your feelings to, sometimes, total strangers: it's a really interesting and exhilarating experience that (when it goes well) reminds me why I love creating music. I love meeting new people through live performances, I love how they can feel like they really know you after they've seen a set and heard all the things you write about. I feel like I make new friends everytime I play.

Are there any specific artists or musicians you dream of collaborating with?

Would LOVE to tour with Yungblud. His energy is infectious and really inspiring and I love his music and his voice. Doing a track with him would be incredible.
