STEREOLUX On the Making Of ‘Who told you’
What was the creative process like for this particular EP?
STEREOLUX is a brand new project, and I recorded the first EP in my home studio.
I spent a lot of time creating the sounds for "not afraid" for which I wanted a very dense texture in which you may hear many things if you listen closely and very loud! :)
For "who told you" and "please", I created the main sounds on a Prophet-6, one of my favorite analog synths, and then spent most of the time searching for a simple melody that would sound intimate.
The process was quite long, but I loved it!
Were there any memorable or standout moments during the recording sessions for 'Who told you?'
It's the first time I composed and recorded for a solo project.
When I started recording this EP, it was a mixed feeling moment: I felt very pleased to be able to go in the direction I wanted, and at the same time, I felt dizzy with the possibilities, without having anyone to suggest a change here or there.
It's a totally different experience from composing in a band where everyone has a conscious or unconscious impact on the global direction of a track.
Can you talk about any standout tracks on the EP and what makes them special to you?
I think "not afraid" stands out by the sound, the ambiance and the lyrics.
It's also the track that has gotten the most opposite reactions :
some people have told me that it was their favorite by far, while others have said that they could not listen to it completely, because of the noise and anguish it caused.
"not afraid" was composed to reproduce the feeling of being overwhelmed while trying to convince oneself that everything will be alright, so, in all cases, I was very happy with the feedback!
Can you tell us more about you as an artist?
As a kid, I took piano lessons for 4 years with a wonderful teacher. It gave me a good starting point for my first band during my teenage years.
I then learned to play other instruments on my own: I had several bands with friends, and we were always exchanging instruments ... it's amazing how quickly you learn when you enjoy what you do! :)
Also, I used to be a photographer, and used some of my abstract polaroids for STEREOLUX.

Are there any specific themes or messages that you aim to convey through your music?
In the lyrics, I try not to tell a story. I try to express emotions in a minimal context, so that the listener can let his/her imagination wander. I hope it works on you.
