Star Persona On the Making Of “Vanilla”

What was the creative process like for this particular "Vanilla?"

For “Vanilla” as for most songs I (CLaude) lay down the rhythm guitar track with a rough drum track with home recording software.

I come up with a vocal melody and add lyrics that fit the vocal melody. When the song is more polished our drummer will redo the drums more proffesionaly and send it to me as a midi drum file. We then send the idea to the studio producer. When I arrive at the studio the drums are ready and even more polished. I lay down the guitar tracks over the drums starting with rhythm guitar, lead guitars and bass guitar.

Once the music is done we add the vocals and harmonies. The studio producer will also add ideas and nuances . We sometimes experiment trying different things with the song in studio. When we leave the studio the song is even better than the original Idea.

Could you discuss the lyrical themes or messages conveyed in "Vanilla?"

”Vanilla” is based on the true story of mechaphile Edward Smith .

A man who had SEX with over 1,000 CARS. He has now settled down with a Volkswagen Beetle called Vanilla.

The song “Vanilla” focuses more on his attraction for his dream car.

How has the audience response been to "Vanilla" during live shows?

We haven't had a chance to play Vanilla live

Our city has been voted most boring city in Canada lol and that covid thing happened with lockdowns ect...

Our focus is on writing ,recording, releasing and promoting more of our music.

What are some of the biggest challenges you have faced as a band, and how did you overcome them?

As a band the biggest challenges is getting break through exposure and a following. There are so many great self produced artists these days that can self publish their works world wide.

To overcome this and build a following ,we do educative research on youtube, promote our music on socials and keep writing, playing music.

Are there any specific artists or musicians you dream of collaborating with?

We had a guest Steel guitar player Pat Robillard play on one of our tracks Hidden Melody. We were lucky to know him personaly . I can't think of any other steel guitar players in my area.

Our next collaboration will be with a shredding guitarist , you know like a Joe Satriani type.

If a song requires a skill we don't have we'll put out the call. It's all about the song.
