Self Torque On the Making Of “No Rest”

What was the initial spark or idea that led to the creation of "No Rest?"

The main riff came first, I'd been listening to A Giant Dog a lot at the time and I think you can hear that in the chord progressions, especially in the chorus. Lyrically it started off with being frustrated about not being able to write anything.

What did you enjoy most about making "No Rest?"

I enjoyed tracking it in the studio, it's a fun song to play. Most of all I was happy when it was finished, I never felt like I had the lyrics down and it kept on changing every time I sang it so to have that end point was good.

How does "No Rest" fit into your overall artistic vision and what can listeners expect from you in the future?

Most of my songs are simple, short and to the point. “No Rest” isn't an exception to that but there's definitely more going on than some of my other songs and I feel that's where the new stuff is heading.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got started in music?

I auditioned for a part in a well-known 00's children's film franchise but alas I didn't get it. I cried so much on the bus home that a kindly woman took pity on me and played a song on her banjo to cheer me up, it worked and I started taking lessons from her every second Tuesday.

Can you walk us through your creative process when writing and composing music?

No way, it's far too painful yet boring to re-live.
