Sansom On the Making Of “Sandy”

What was the creative process like for "Sandy?"

My song “Sandy” was a knee-jerk reaction to someone close going through a hard time. They were searching for answers on how to help the one they love through addiction. The main verses came together fast and I just allowed the song to push through different feelings. It was very cathartic and I didn't think I would release it as it was very personal at the time.

Can you talk about the recording and production process for "Sandy?"

I recorded “Sandy” with other recent singles: “Suck it Up,” “Saturday,” and “Sinner,” which you can find online. I worked a lot at home on the production of “Sandy.” Colouring the sound with some synth work I did in my bedroom. The recording process was local to Brighton and I was pretty chuffed with how the guitars turned out.

What has been one of your favorite memories along the path to making "Sandy?"

Being in the studio with my mates. Watching them and their talent fly. The energy was high along the path and it was awesome to push each other to the level we wanted “Sandy” to be.

Can you share a bit about your musical background and the journey that led you to where you are today?

I've always loved being in the music environment. The first time I held a guitar I knew it felt right. The first time I played live and felt the sound in my chest I knew it felt right to be there. I've been in Brighton and London gigging for other artists for a while. My journey hasn't been short. I've been stretched, down, and sideways along the way.

How do you balance crafting relatable stories with maintaining your unique voice as a songwriter?

Without being cliche, be authentic. I’ll write about things that I know and write music to explore and express myself.
