Hypothetical “Gone”

Music Review: Hypothetical "Gone"

Hypothetical Drops Cathartic Reminiscence “Gone”

Standing at the crossroad between past and future; the rumbling memories meet the vows to move on. “Gone” is about the complex feelings and reminiscence right before you sail out to the horizon.

Hypothetical quote Red Hot Chili Peppers and the earlier, edgier The National as their inspirations. The Philadelphia-based alternative duo of Matt Feldman (vocal/production) and Sean O’Neil (production) share melancholy, melodic guitar soundscapes infused with hope, feelings, and warmth in this release.

"Gone" opens with a pacing guitar, alternating between two notes like the footsteps have traveled far. The harmonious texture sonically paves around the narrowed, moodier past, landing on a broadening landscape for a moment of truth.

“When mine creep in, I’m off the ground. It’s been so hard to break the clouds. You sold my feelings by the pound. I’m going, going, going, going.”

Matt Feldman’s voice has the raw feelings in it that carry the weight of the words. The first appearance of the chorus opens up the vulnerability of the song.

Navigating between quieter and more intimate lyrical verses and messier, feeling-fused soundscapes with fuzzy guitar and short melodic vocal phrases. Hypothetical has so well captured the intricate balance in their songwriting, gated by a well-polished production.

The second comeback of the chorus takes on a cathartic approach to the track, scaling for an emotional high. It’s drastic, it’s determined, and it’s painful. The ebb of echoes blurring in the wind was simply poised.
