Hila Rabby “The Walls”

“The Walls” is the type of song that stands on top the world and declaims itself to be exactly what it needs to be It doesn’t compromise or get lost in the chase of somebody else’s dream — it sounds like the exact vision that Hila Rabby had in mind. In many ways, the contemporary tune can’t be defined by trend or pop or anything of that sort. It surpasses mainstream and steps into the field of what is truly interesting.

There’s real dizziness and off-balance in the song, thrown by a jazz-inspired percussion and Rabby’s chant like vocal that hits simply differently than what listeners who are used to mainstream genres are unfamiliar with. At the same time, “The Walls” presents a strong artistic aesthetic and an urge to experiment and explore. The chaos and instability isn’t something that is created or channeled through the song. It seems to be exactly what the song is, not what it represents.

Hila Rabby has the ability to break the boundary in music in a way that’s unique and special to her. Rabby’s vocal also presents a wondrous palette that compresses the past, present and future. Her vocal hasn’t lose its childlike wonder. There’s purity and innocence in her voice that is translucent and beautiful. However, the melancholia and warmth blends in and creates a complex tone that speaks of maturity. On top of that, Rabby’s controlled yet expressive delivery also sees a brilliant fuse of rawness and experience.

“The Walls” is a song that throws you off of your feet at first, but catches you right before you fall. It challenges your perception and invites you to open your mind, and once you do, it’s a whole new universe out there.
