Gyats0 “Wake”

Gyats0 Wake

Catholic funerals have sadly become an important part of memories for Gyats0 as loss and death inevitably entered life, maybe a little too early for the artist. Grief, on the other hand, became a topic that the artist is too familiar with. “Wake” took place during a rough time in Gyats0’s life as he looks back and reflects upon the past.

Gyats0 articulates the greyish color of death with the humidity and hope of the rain, shedding a soft green light into “Wake.” His visually infused lyricism paints the surrounding with a mood-filled filter, drawing the listeners into the unique indie dream pop environment of his storytelling.

“Fixed up the motor and got it going in the bleached white line of houses, flip the choke and I’m mowing.” Probably no other artist would be able to articulate a line of lyrics like Gyats0 as he fully engages listeners through sense (choke), sound (mowing, motor), and color (beached white), visualizing the scene.

On the other hand, the storming guitar strumming feels like Gyats0 was punching an imaginative wall with his guitar. “Wake” didn’t have to be explicit to be cathartic and powerful because everything was so deeply inserted into the way he approach this difficult topic. The sense of absence in Gyats0’s storytelling recalls the confusion and unknown as he further navigates through the healing process.

At the same time, a starry bassline and jazzy piano weave in a glistening, gentle color that like the rain, nourishes the aching soul, showing listeners an imaginative, sensitive side of Gyats0 that still shines through the intense emotional chaos. “Wake” is the second song from Gyats0’s latest album Headacher. Be sure to give the album a proper listen if you enjoy “Wake”!
