Francis Eden “Fool's Gold”

Music Review: Francis Eden "Fool's Gold"

“Fool’s Gold” makes an impression at its entrance. Bathed in the sultry mood of dark piano chords where the airy synth becomes the immersive soft waves, Francis Eden’s soulful vocal tells a story about those feeling undervalued and underappreciated, living in the shadow of capitalism.

“Mama told me, I had to work hard, Have to be able to fend for myself…Souls sold, for fool’s gold, really makes me wonder, how this world truly runs.”

The jazzy twists in her lyrics and vocal delivery are deeply connected to our experience as exhausting adults, trying the best we could to make it in the world. She reflects on the frustration and the truth of our reality and channels those emotions into simple but powerful lines of words that are so easy to relate to.

And the elements and influences from indie, folk, R&B, and jazz simply fall into line with her expression.

Francis Eden is the solo project of musician Claire Inglis. The project’s name is derived from her middle name and the biblical story about the Garden of Eden and its lessons on human nature and temptation.

Born and raised in Sydney, Francis has been playing musical instruments from an early age. In recent years, she is leaning onto the path of a singer-songwriter and a producer. Francis Eden also revealed an upcoming EP in late 2022.
