Review: “Meet Me at Garvies” by Gone Stereo

Meet Me At Garvies” beams with plastically thumping machine gun punk riff. Pop rock vocal that’s both youthful and hopeful. A little starry-eyed, but a lot of passion and courage. There’s a sense of dream and curiosity in Gone Stereo’s sound as if they’re exploring the world through their music while building one on their own. “Meet Me At Garvies” is exhilarating and sultry. It’s sweaty and carefree. It connects to the best part of youth without the misery and the disorientation. It’s nostalgic and heart-warming with a nod to the early 00s while letting the 90s cast its shadow.

Only the best lives in Gone Stereo’s punk rock. Their music is very in-the-moment. Guitar bop backs by drums while the soaring vocal is perfectly sensible. It melts in your ears and carves a cross in your heart. They are perfect for live shows. There’s no doubt about that. The five-piece melodic punk band is a radiating force that infiltrates the cold and indifference and the pretense. There’s so much light in their sound. Yes, they are hard-hitting, but not in an aggressive, traumatizing one. In fact, their sound is very nurturing.

It connects to the past and present of ourselves and the community, accepting, empowering and recreating. The energy in “Meet Me At Garvies” is unmatched. There’s something more in it. It’s like the band, all five of them, have decided to put their passion, dream, love and souls into this song. Part of them lives in it, and you literally feel as if in a room with them through the audio.

The Long Island band was formed in 2022. On the inspiration of the song, Marty reveals what this tune really is about — the fleeing and the lasting. “Throughout most of my life, It always felt like as soon as it comes, it was already gone. So, I took those feelings and that sentence and there you have it,” he says.
