Renting Asteroids On the Making Of ‘The Wall Tells A Tale’

How did everything come together?

Everything came together one day while I was listening to the Paranorman soundtrack. I was very taken aback, and very inspired by it. My other inspiration came from SigurRós’ album ‘Takk…’ which is one of my favorite albums.

Can you talk about the recording and production process for 'The Wall Tells A Tale?'

Everything was recorded in my home studio. It was recorded and produced by me in about a year while simultaneously working on other albums. This album took much longer than my others, with some songs even having 15 revisions.

Can you talk about any standout tracks on the album and what makes them special to you?

“Gray Skies Ahead” and “Faraway Time (Within You)” are definitely stand out tracks. “Gray Skies Ahead” is special to me because I recorded while home alone, and I wanted to capture the feeling of being alone on a rainy day. “Faraway Time (Within You)” is special to me because it is about me feeling stuck in a current situation and wanting to escape.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got started in music?

I’ve been making music since I was practically a baby. I was enrolled in piano lessons when I was about 3. I released my first album ever in 2020, under a different artist name. I made many after that but those are now no longer available(due to them being taken off streaming platforms). I released my first album under Renting Asteroids in 2023, and have made more since then.

Who are some of your biggest musical influences, and how have they impacted your own sound?

My biggest musical influences are Sigur Rós, Björk, and Múm. They all inspire my sound in different ways. Sigur Rós inspired the post rock sound, Björk inspired the orchestral sound, and Múm inspired the calm electronic sound.
