Project 1268 On the Making Of “Bravery and Apathy (remastered)”
Can you share any interesting or unique musical elements or production techniques used in "Bravery and Apathy (remastered)?"
Craig: This song had a couple of unbelievable backstories...Picture a four hour live gig on a Friday night, a four hour recording session on Saturday, including scratch vocals, THEN the actual vocal session on Sunday...THIS is Haley at the very end of literally 10+ hours of singing that weekend. In addition, this song was not pieced together instrument by instrument, or overlaying tracks. The instrumental portion of this is a kick ass session band LIVE...
What was the initial spark or idea that led to the creation of "Bravery and Apathy (remastered)?"
C: This is one with the lyrics explaining it all...I don't believe what's on TV....Haley agrees in that she doesn't participate - not a news watcher and doesn't participate in social media.
Have you noticed any particular interpretations or connections that listeners have made with "Bravery and Apathy (remastered)?"
C: This is probably our hardest hitting song...listeners have loved it and are surprised because we literally are sometimes just a soulful piano / vocal duo. The content of this one required a rockin' backup group with an attitude. It's one of our drummer's favorite songs he has ever worked on.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got started in music?
Haley: Loved music my whole life...my first concert was in preschool. I would sing into a garden hose, pretending it was a microphone in the back yard. I consider music the best expression and health indicator of my soul. Sometimes I get busy and lose touch with my heart. Then I realize I haven't been listening to music and not singing. That's very bad for me! I know I need to stop and figure things out when that happens.
C: Piano from a young age, saxophone all through school, even university. Choir later, as well, in high school and in churches. I teach piano now, also, trying to get kids involved at a heart level, whether their favorite is Bach or Billie Eilish. My favorite part of OUR story, though, is our reconnection. Haley and I were really close in high school, but as often happens, we moved apart, lost touch, etc. We literally accidentally ran into each other in 2019 in a different city and state, and were SO excited to be reconnected. We started Project 1268 in 2020 and we have been on fire ever since, writing, recording, performing and establishing that we were probably supposed to be a garage band a long time ago!
Are there any specific themes or messages that you aim to convey through your music?
H: Each song has its own message, but each one speaks to the same exact thing - our purpose in our lyrics is to connect with other human beings. To say, " I'll start the conversation; here's MY experience." I reach out to them and the hear my story, we are connected. And if the story resonates with them, it strengthens and encourages both of us because we feel understood and acceptable. Knowing that is powerful.
