Pete Asshill On the Making Of “Stay”
Could you discuss the lyrical themes or messages conveyed in "Stay?"
Of course, this is a pleasure. There's always a lesson in all good stories. This is what we are striving for in all our lyrics. Stay's lesson is based on Albert Einstein's wisdom/aphorism:
"To keep your balance, you must keep moving".
Sometimes our lyrics contain dark humor. Just to be sure that the BBC won't play our songs.
Were there any memorable or standout moments during the recording sessions for "Stay?"
Originally there were more instruments (keyboards), but we left them out. Because, keep it simple stu..Pete.
At first also our mixer did his work literally mixing vocal tracks so that the lead singer was mixed as a background singer.
How does "Stay" fit into your overall artistic vision?
Thanks, epic, very well, if we think it's all rock & something we enjoy to play.
Earlier we played songs, which were more like alt-rock or prog rock, but somebody might call "Stay" as hard rock or even punk rock. Of course, "Stay" is more simple and also energetic than previous releases.
On the other hand "Stay" is originally written about 20 years ago. So it's actually the oldest of our own songs, too.
Can you share a bit about your musical background and the journey that led you to where you are today?
We share a common interest in rock music and we like to have just fun to make music. Many different local bands earlier. Otherwise too long and complicated story for this.
Are there any specific artists or musicians you dream of collaborating with?
Not actually. Sad to say, but in most cases they are not capable to collaborate, any more.
But it would be nice to hear someone else to play our songs.
E.g. How would "Black Sabbath" or "Uriah Heep" or "Ram Jam" or "New York Dolls" play/perform "Stay”?
