No See Ums Releases “Flags”

Out now on Not Saints, Brighton-based ‘No See Ums’ debut single oozes innuendo and drips sarcasm. “Flags” is a story of obsession under a magnifying glass of perversion, diving deep into the right-wing world of unreasoned patriotism, and national pride that teeters on the extremes of nationalism.

In his own word’s frontman, Phil Johnstone says,

“Many people notice that there’s a crisis in Britain, there’s this undercurrent of nationalism that’s returned. The protagonist in the song… it sounds like he’s talking about a woman in a very inappropriate way, and it’s only later do we find out it’s about the Union flag.”

Musically, “Flags” encapsulates the band's roots in Punk and Garage Rock. Reminiscent of early Queens of The Stone Age or perhaps even Jack White, “Flags” has a raw sound that feels angular but accessible. As the lyrics unfold, we are led into the No See Ums nefarious world of scandal, degeneration, and dark comedy wrapped in social commentary. The music is fun, easy to digest, and might just be the perfect soundtrack for those sick of a Nation at odds with itself.

No See Ums new single “Flags” is out now on all major streaming platforms.

The new album ‘Elephants at the Airport’ will be released worldwide on 10th May 2024.

No See Ums are a Brighton (UK) based trio that formed around the Covid19 pandemic. A politically charged, wild and thrashy rock outfit of drums, bass and guitar they draw influence from all corners of music.

No See Ums are fronted by seminal guitarist and lyricist Phil Johnstone, of infamous psych-prog-rock band The Qwarks. Phil is joined on Bass by Jax Burley of notorious Queer Punk band Daffodildos, and drummer Nick Flowers also of The Qwarks.

Not Saints is the UK's only record label working with musicians in recovery from addiction. We help our artists to re-discover their creativity and find their way to be active in music, without having to face the dangers presented to them in conventional music scenes.
