Ninni On the Making Of “Together”
How did you come up with the idea?
I was thinking about recording another type of song with my classical guitar but then I started to hum the melody of Together, picked up my semiacoustic guitar and recorded it in my bedroom.
Were there any memorable or standout moments during the recording sessions for "Together?"
I've always loved the way the Beach Boys, the Beatles and also Doo-Wop singers arranged the backing vocals in their songs, so when I recorded them in “Together,” I was really happy about the result, keeping them simple and harmonious.
What has been one of your most favorite memories along the path to making "Together?"
I was happy about the way I finished the song, with a minimalist arrangement. I've always been inspired by artists like Jack Johnson and James Bay.
Can you tell us more about you as an artist?
I started out as a bassist when I was young, playing in a punk-rock band called The Collettivo and we had the chance to tour Italy. Later I met some talented musicians and songwriters from Naples and widened my musical experiences ranging from ethno, folk and other kinds of music. I have to say that I was and I'm still into a lot of musical styles and genres. For example, as I mentioned earlier, I started with punk music but I listened and still listen to classical, cinematic and electronic music.
Lately, I've been fascinated by Brazilian and also Fado music.
I absolutely love Amalia Rodriguez and Yamandu Costa.
What are some of the biggest challenges you have faced as a musician, and how did you overcome them?
It is stimulating but also difficult to go from one musical style to another. My musical experiences have ranged from folk to electronic music and I have to say I still like to draw inspiration from different musical genres. Variety is the spice of life.
