Ninni On the Making Of “A Meravilha”
Can you tell us about the inspiration behind "A Meravilha" and the story it tells?
I was inspired by world music, drawing from both the Portuguese word "maravilha" and the Italian "meraviglia," which both mean “wonder” or “marvel.” I tried capturing that sense of wonder we feel when we're fully present with something extraordinary. A feeling we have when we are in contact with nature.
How do you feel this masterpiece represents your artistic identity?
This piece reflects who I am at my core — someone who listens closely to the sounds around me. In A Meravilha, I focused on gentle instrumentation, gentle sounds and imagined a woman enjoying the spring atmosphere when walking through a field of tulips. It’s about connection, softness, and curiosity.
What did you enjoy most about making this track?
I just went with the flow: I think a musician gives his best when he/she lets himself go without thinking too much about technique, arrangements, etc.
How did you first become interested in music, and when did you start playing your instrument?
I started playing bass when I was a kid and followed my brothers' band called "Mamasan" that played around Italy. Later I started playing in a punk band,"The Collettivo", and we toured Italy too. I then had various experiences as a bass player playing different musical genres such as world music, folk, rock etc. At the same time I started playing guitar as a self-taught player and then studied it later.
Do you have a personal favorite among your compositions?
No, I don't have one but I think "A Meravilha" continues the tradition of my recent works like "Vott'a venì," "Samba do amor," and "As ondas do mar". All of them are instrumental songs . My goal has been to create instrumental music that speaks directly to the soul. For me, this track represents a culmination of that vision: a transcendent journey shaped by the textures of different cultures.
