Nick Stone On the Making Of “Cinnamon”

What was the creative process like for this particular "Cinnamon?"

So it was around 1 am the night before this gig we were set to play the following day. By this time it was only me Colton and 1 of our bandmates Liam left in our rehearsal space. We were all tired and the guys really wanted to go home but for some reason I had a sudden urge to play the drums so I practically begged the guys to play just ONE song, to which they finally agreed. Colton pretty much out of the gate just starts playing these chords and I start to follow along before stopping him and asking "what song is that?" To this, he just replied, "nothin I’m just messing around". We probably left our space around 4 am that morning with the song that would become “Cinnamon.”

Can you share any memorable experiences or stories from performing "Cinnamon" live?

The day after we had initially written the song, we had that show to play in the daytime. It was a show put on by Porsche for the 75th anniversary of the company. Now we were all jazzed up about creating “Cinnamon” the night before but there was only one problem; we had no chorus and most of the verses were only half finished. So, with roughly an hour and a half before we were set to perform we picked up a pen and started writing. Miraculously we somehow finished the song in that short time, then we performed it and the reaction from the crowd was better for that song than any other song we played that day. We felt pretty good about that.

What has been one of your most favorite memories along the path to making "Cinnamon?"

We shot a music video for “Cinnamon” that’s out now, it is my first music video I’ve ever released and we had a blast shooting it. Music Video aside My most favourite memory from this song was probably recording it at Parksound Studios with my good friend and producer Dan Ponich. We always have a killer time working with Dan and it was amazing to see it all come together in such a beautiful space.

What do you find most rewarding about co-writing with others?

Creating something special like this with Colton, coming together on ideas to make something that we are both proud to put our names on has brought us closer in a way. It has encouraged us to continue our musical partnership. We find solace in leaning into each other’s ideas and blending them with our own. Or at least I do haha.

Are there any specific venues or festivals that you dream of performing at?

Being from Vancouver we would love to play Rifflandia over on Vancouver Island. That being said, if we were dreaming big who wouldn’t want to play at Coachella? I’d also be very keen to play the Troubadour someday.
