Neska Rose On the Making Of “Aware”

What was the creative process like for this particular song?

“Aware” was a great collaborative effort with my producer, David Greenbaum. First, David layed out the beat, and we played around with drums and synths... Then I spit out lyrics that felt very natural to me, it didn't take any edits or cuts for the message of the song to come through... And of course, the wonderful Libi Rose went in with harmonies, the best cherry on top.

How did you work with the producer or engineers to bring your vision for "Aware" to life?

The beat David made really evoked something in me that made the whole writing process of the song simple. I got immediate 90s. pop, Regina Spektor, Alanis vibe. It was cheerful, jumpy, but nonchalant, so it made me think of what to write about... Aha!! I'll shut up and do my thing till you're aware of yourself.

What do you like the best about "Aware?"

The adlibs and ear candies we added. Throughout the making of the song, I decided to add satellite sounds, because satellites are used to conduct communications and provide information to predict chaos.. I wish we had that down here.

Where do you find inspiration for your songs or musical ideas?

Inspiration surrounds me. If I go looking for it, It runs away from me. I don't know what inspires me; only until I'm done with the song, I hear it back and assume this one thing might've inspired it.

How do you continuously grow and evolve as a duo?

As we get older. Not just as a duo, but as twin sisters. We move through the motions at the same pace, so as we 'find' ourselves as people, we gain creative perspectives. And also allowing ourselves to receive the other's input, because we are VERY different, with different things to bring to the table, so embracing that only makes us grow.
